Softball Drops a Pair of Games on Day Four of Rebel Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, FLA. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on the fourth day of the annual Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola County Softball Complex.

BW (3-5) opened the day with a 4-0 defeat to Coe (Iowa) College.  The Yellow Jackets closed the day with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Carroll (Wis.) College.

Against Coe, BW had no runs on three hits.  Coe scored four runs on six hits as it plated one run in the first, one in the second and two runs in the fourth.

The BW offense was led by junior leftfielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto), sophomore shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) and sophomore catcher Lena Kortis (Massillon/Perry) with one hit apiece.

In the circle, junior pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands), who is this week's OAC Pitcher-of-the-Week allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of action.

Against Carroll, BW scored two runs on eight hits as it plated one run in the fifth and one in the sixth.  Carroll scored three runs on eight hits as it plated one run in the first, one in the fifth and the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

The BW offense was led by freshman third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) as she went 3-for-3.  Freshman centerfielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) went 2-for-4 with her first career double and run-batted in (RBI).  Three other Yellow Jacket hitters had a base knock while junior All-OAC second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) had a triple and a RBI.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits with one strikeout.

BW is back in action on Thursday, March 10 as it continues play on day five of competition at the Rebel Spring Games with two non-conference games against Widener (Pa.) University and Farmingdale State (N.Y.) University.  The game against Widener is at 1:30 p.m. and the Farmingdale State game is slated for a 3:45 p.m. start.
