Softball Splits OAC Doubleheader with Cross-town Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team spilt an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against cross-town rival John Carroll University on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.

John Carroll (8-10, 2-4 OAC) won the first game by a final score of 6-0.  The first game took just shy of three hours to complete due to three lighting delays.  BW (9-11, 2-4 OAC) won the second game by a final score of 3-2 to earn the split.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets was held scoreless on two hits hits.  The Blue Streaks scored six runs on nine hits as it scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched seven innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on six hits hits as it tied the game in the four with two runs and won the game on the won the game on the run batted-in sacrifice fly by Morgan in the bottom of the sixth.   John Carroll scored two runs on four hits as it tallied a run in the second and one the fourth. 

The BW offense was led by junior All-OAC second baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) as she went 2-for-2 with the Yellow Jackets lone extra base hit as she had a double.  Four other BW hitters had a base knock.   Morgan added two RBIs.

In the circle, Morgan pitched seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with three strikeouts as she improved to 6-6 on the year.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 9 when they host an OAC doubleheader against Marietta College at 1 p.m.
