BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to visiting Heidelberg University at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. The Student Princes (16-4, 5-1 OAC) won the opener, 4-2, and captured the nightcap, 6-1.

In the first game, Heidelberg gained a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and BW (7-13, 0-6 OAC) came right back with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1. Freshman shortstop Alicia Hack (Pickerington./ North) singled, moved to second on an error and scored when freshman catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge) singled.

After HU scored twice in the third to take a 4-1 advantage, BW got a run back in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore right fielder Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/ Perkins)  hit her first career home run.

At the plate, Hack led the Yellow Jackets with a pair of hits and was 2-for-3.

On the mound, sophomore Erica Morgan (Brook Park/ Midpark) pitched a complete-game seven innings, allowed four hits, four runs (all earned(, struck out two Heidelberg batters and walked four others. She took the loss to fall to 3-6 this season.

In the nightcap, Heidelberg again jumped on top 3-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the first and another in the second. The Student Princes increased their lead to 6-0 with three more runs in the fourth. BW scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-1 when sophomore All-OAC third baeman DJ Rogers (Warren/ Champion) singled, moved to second on a HU error and scored on a single by All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge).

At the plate, seven separate Yellow Jackets each had a hit.

On the mound, sophomore Samantha Dostal (Oberlin/ Firelands) started and pitched all seven innings, allowed 13 hits, six runs (all earned), struck out five and walked two to fall to 4-7 this season.

BW is back in action on Friday, April 3 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Otterbein Universoty at 1 p.m.
