PEPPER PIKE, OHIO – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference right-hander Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/ Field) hit her team-high fifth home run of the season and earned the win in the circle to lead the Baldwin Wallace University softball team to a 6-2 win at Ursuline College today (Sunday, April 14, 2013) in the nightcap of a non-league doubleheader.  This was the second of six doubleheaders in six days for the Yellow Jackets.

The win improves BW to 14-10 and snaps a six-game losing streak.  Ursuline falls to 7-15.

BW rapped out four singles and exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning.  Junior left fielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) and Murray sandwiched singles around a sacrifice bunt from sophomore All-OAC shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) to put a pair of runners in scoring position.  Senior designated hitter Alyssa Brown (Hudson) and freshman second basemen Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name) each followed with run batted-in singles and a sacrifice fly by sophomore first basemen Mackenzie Brua (Avon) capped the rally.

Ursuline chipped in to the Yellow Jacket lead with single runs in the bottom of the second and sixth innings, but Murray gave herself an insurance run with a solo home run in the seventh, then retired all three batters she faced to thwart any comeback attempt.

Murray went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, one RBI and two runs scored.  Fiorucci was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, one RBI and one run.  Junior All-OAC third baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Murray gave up just two earned runs on six hits, struck out nine batters and walked just two, and earned the win to improve to 12-6 in her 10th complete game of the season.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, April 15 when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania for a non-league twinbill against Geneva College at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, April 16, BW plays a make-up OAC doubleheader against Capital University at 3 p.m. On Wednesday, April 17, BW is at Heidelberg University in Tiffin at 3 p.m. before hosting The College of Wooster in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
