TUCSON, ARIZ. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a pair of games on the final day of the Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park Softball Complex.  The Yellow Jackets fell to Trinity (Texas) University in nine innings by a final score of 6-4 in the first game and defeated Marian (Wis.) University by a final score of 7-3 in the second game.

BW ends its spring trip with an overall record of 7-3 and next plays on Tuesday, March 19 when it travels to Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to take on the Tornadoes of Geneva College in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.

Against Trinity, the game was tied after seven innings and went to international tiebreaker rules, in which a runner was automatically placed at second base to start each extra inning played.  Both teams were unable to score in the eighth inning. The Tigers broke the tie in the top of the ninth inning as they plated two runs.  The Yellow Jackets were unable to score in the bottom half. Despite the loss, the BW offense was led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference third baseman Lauren Feciuch (Kent/Field) who went 3-for-5 with three runs batted-in and a run scored.

On the mound, junior All-OAC pitcher Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field), who threw back-to-back perfect games on Wednesday, pitched a career-high nine innings and allowed six runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Against Marian, the Yellow Jackets pounded out nine hits and scored seven runs with seven RBI.  Sophomore All-OAC shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) led the attack as she went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.  Junior leftfielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) also added two hits as she went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while senior rightfielder Alyssa Brown (Hudson) went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

On the mound, sophomore transfer pitcher Lauren Mims (Wellington) started her third game of the season and picked up her first BW win.  Mims pitched her first complete game as she pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits with three strike outs and two walks.

Following its game with Geneva, BW will open up OAC play on Saturday, March 23 when it will welcome the Cardinals of Otterbein University to the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.  The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
