Four Student-Athletes Named Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- Four Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference baseball and softball teams.

Student-athletes are nominated and selected by the Faculty Athletics Representatives of each school.  To qualify, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve who has appeared in more than half of his/ her teams games/ events.


Joining Toughey on the Academic All-OAC baseball squad is junior righthanded pitcher David Redovian (Fairlawn/ Copley).  Headlining the softball selection is graduated pitcher Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic), who set a Yellow Jacket school record for career victories and was this year's Outstanding Senior Female Athlete. She is joined by sophomore first baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake).


Baker, who carried a 3.4 grade point average in early childhood education, was a four-year starter on the mound and also played in the infield or outfield or was the designated hitter when she wasn't pitching. This season, she compiled a 7-4 record with a 2.22 earned run average and struck out 33 batters in 82 innings pitched. For her career, Baker won a school-record 44 games and had a 44-27 record with a 2.37 ERA and struck out 210 batters in 454 innings pitched. This season at the plate, Baker had a .246 batting average (28-for-114) with four doubles, a triple, one homer and 15 RBI. For her career, she batted .266 in 142 career games (113-for-425) with 52 runs scored, 22 doubles, three triples, three homers, 60 RBI and two stolen bases. In the classroom, Baker was a Dean's List student and is a member of the "Teaching Together" group.

Mullen, who carries a 3.76 grade point average in special education and English, is a 2-year starter.  This season, she batted .287 in 38 games (29-for-101) with 18 runs scored, five doubles, three homers, 21 RBI and one stolen base. In two seasons, Mullen is hitting .323 in 77 contests (70-for-217) with 11 doubles, seven homers, 45 RBI and two steals. In the classroom, Mullen is a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies. She received a Laedership Award at the 2012 Student-Athlete Awards Luncheon for having the "Highest Grade Point Average" on the softball team.
