Yellow Jackets Fall to Heidelberg In Doubleheader

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team was swept today (Tuesday, April 17, 2012) by Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader by final scores of 9-5 and 14-4.

With the losses, B-W fell to 16-14 overall and 5-7 in the OAC. The Berg is now 15-13 overall and 5-6 in the OAC.

In the first game, the Yellow Jacket offense scored five runs on seven hits and was led by senior second baseman Katie Finley (Vermilion) as she went 2-for-3 with her second homerun of the season, two runs batted-in. Sophomore third baseman Lauren Feciuch (Kent/Field) went 2-for4 with a double and one RBI. Sophomore rightfielder Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) was 1-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Justina Wise (New London) suffered the loss as she allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits. She recorded five strikeouts with two walks.

In the second game, B-W scored four runs on nine hits and was led by Feciuch who went 3-for-4 with a homerun, RBI and two runs scored. Junior designated player Alyssa Brown (Hudson)went 2-for-4 and Finley and freshman shortsop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) each added a hit.

On the mound, senior Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) took the loss as she allowed 14 runs (five earned) on 13 hits. She did not give up an earned run utnil the final five runs of the game. Baker recorded a season-high seven strikeouts with two walks.

B-W is back in action on Thursday, April 19 when it plays host to NCAA Division II Ursuline College in a non-conference twinbill at 3:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets also travel to Ada, Ohio this Saturday, April 21 for an OAC doubleheader versus first place Ohio Northern University at 1:00 p.m.
