2011-2012 Major Athletics Award Winners Announced

BEREA, OHIO - Baldwin-Wallace College has selected its all-time leading scorer in men's soccer in Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) and its all-time wins leader in women's softball in Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) as its 2011-2012 Outstanding Senior Male and Female Athlete, respectively. The College also has tabbed senior standout men's tennis scholar-athlete Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) and senior women's basketball student-athlete Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/ St. Mary Central Catholic) as its Clyde Lamb Award winners to the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Vandendriessche is the recipient of the Kenneth Steingass Award and Baker is the Most Outstanding Female Athlete. Trzeciak and Spisak earn the Clyde Lamb awards, which are symbolic of the school's top senior student-athletes. Each of the ten (10) OAC schools select a Lamb Award winner who is recognized at the league's spring awards dinner.

"All four student-athletes had outstanding careers and have represented Baldwin-Wallace College with distinction both on and off the field of competition," said Director of Athletics Kris A. Diaz. "We are extremely proud of them and their accomplishments, and the awards that they are receiving are well-deserved."

Baker currently has 44 career victories and is the winningest pitcher in school history entering a season-ending OAC doubleheader tomorrow (Saturday, April 28) at Marietta College. In terms of career numbers, she is first in wins, needs to pitch five innings at Marietta to be first in innings pitched (currently at 454), third in strikeouts (210), third in complete games (49) and tied for eighth in earned run average (2.37). In terms of season marks, Baker has the most wins (19 in 2010), second in complete games (21 in 2010) and tied for eighth in whiffs (88 in 2010). In addition to being one of the best pitchers ever to wear the Brown & Gold, she is a .267 career hitter (112-for-419) with 52 runs scored, 21 doubles, two triples, three homeruns, 60 runs batted-in and two stolen bases. She also is a two-time recipient of the OAC Softball Pitcher of the Week award. Academically, the early childhood education major carries a 3.35 grade point average and was a member of the Dean's List.
