B-W Softball Team Drops Two Against Allegheny (Pa.) College in Meadville

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Allegheny (Pa.) College, today, (Thursday, April 16, 2009) in Allegheny.  The Gators won the opener, 2-1, and captured the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings.

The pair of losses drops B-W to 20-12 overall.  Allegheny improves to 17-13 on the season with the victories.

In the first game, B-W jumped out 1-0 lead in the first inning when junior outfielder Mallory Kobak (Independence) scored the Yellow Jackets lone run of the game.  Allegheny quickly struck back with two in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 advantage.  The score would stay that way the rest of the afternoon as neither team was able to plate a run after the first inning.

Offensively, sophomore All-Central Region catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) went three-for-three for the Yellow Jackets.  Kobak had the only other Yellow Jackets hit and scored the only B-W run.

Freshman righthander Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) started for B-W and pitched her 12th complete game of the season.  Baker allowed four hits, two runs, struck out three Gators and took the loss to fall to 10-6 overall.

In the nightcap, B-W was held scoreless throughout while Allegheny plated three in the third inning, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth en route to victory.

Offensively, junior outfielder Chelsea Saunders (Medina/ Highland) went two-for three to lead the Yellow Jackets. Junior shortstop Katrina Resek (Strongsville), junior second baseman Lauren Sabolik (Strongsville) and Kobak each added hits for B-W.

On the mound, sophomore lefthander Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky/ Senior) lasted four innings and took the loss to fall to 9-5 overall. 

B-W will return to action on Friday, April 17, the Yellow Jackets travel to Westerville for an OAC doubleheader at Otterbein College at 3:30 p.m.

This Saturday, April 18 is Senior Day at B-W with it hosting Muskingum College in a twinbill at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the College will acknowledge its lone senior, All-OAC first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Senior). With 28 career homers and 118 runs batted-in, Myor ranks second in school history in each catagory. She needs nine homers and five RBI to tie school career marks.
