#20 Men's Indoor Track and Field Team Takes Second at Bob Shannon Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The 20th-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field teams finished second at the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denision University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.

The Yellow Jacket were second of 10 teams with 124 points.   Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University won the meet with 139 points.

BW was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside) and senior All-American and Academic All-American sprinter Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ St. Anselm's Abbey) as each won two events.

Burdorff remained undefeated in the throwing events with victories in the shot put and weight throw.  He won the shot put with a career-best throw of 51'5.75" and the weight throw with a season-best mark of 59'1.5".  Beidleman was first in the 60-meter dash in a career-best time of 7.02 seconds and first in the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 22.51.

In addition, junior vaulter Johnathon Spilker (Solon) won the pole vault with a career-best mark of 15 feet.  Freshman sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) won the 400-meter dash in a career-best time of 51.36.

Sophomore Cody Smith (Port Clinton) took second in the shot put with a career-best mark of 48'8". Sophomore thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) was second in the weight throw with a mark of 51'7.5".  Sophomore distance runner Brady Jeffers (South Amherst/Firelands) took second in the 1-mile run in a time of 4:33.52. Sophomore distance runner Evan Milovich (Westlake) was third in the 5,000-meter run in a career-best time of 15:40.75. Senior sprinter Michael Beidleman (Washington, D.C./Col. Zadok A. McGruder) was second in the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 22.94 and third in the 60-meter dash in a career-best time of 7.05.

In relay action, the 4x200-meter team of sophomore sprinter Trypp Washington (Orlando, Fla./First Academ), freshman sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermilion), sophomore sprinter Vee Sealey (Painesville/Harvey) and Leverette finished second in a time of 1:35.71.  

The BW multi-event athletes are in action tomorrow, Sunday, February 7 as the compete in the All-Ohio Division III Combined Events Championships hosted by Denison University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse at 12 p.m.

The full Yellow Jacket indoor track and field teams are back in action on Friday, February 12 when they host the annual Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.   Field events begin at 4 p.m. with running events slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
