Brian Rector enters his 35th season as head men's tennis coach at Baldwin Wallace University in 2023-24.

Rector is the winningest men's tennis coach at BW, in the Ohio Athletic Conference and in Ohio Division III collegiate tennis history with a 561-127 career record and an outstanding .815 winning percentage, including a 212-59 mark versus OAC competition for an .785 winning percentage. 

 

Rector has led four Yellow Jacket teams to OAC titles and his 2012 squad to the NCAA Division III National Tournament second round.  He has developed the BW program into being among the best in the OAC and the Central Region of the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association).

Rector's goal each season is to win the OAC title and take his team to the NCAA Division III National Tournament and win an Division III national title.

The Yellow Jackets captured OAC regular season titles in 2004, 2005 and 2011 and won the OAC Tournament crown in 1992, 2004, 2005 and 2012.  His teams have made seven OAC Championship match appearances in the last 14 years.

Prior to taking over the BW program following his graduation in 1989, Rector was a four-year letterman and four-time BW team Most Valuable Player in tennis. He also was a three-year team captain and a CoSIDA/GTE Academic All-American player for the Yellow Jackets. As a senior in 1988-1989, Rector won the OAC title at second singles and set a single-season school-record for singles with with 15. He also combined with Bill Doraty '89 to win the OAC first doubles crown and set a school-record for doubles wins with 14.

At the time of his graduation, Rector owned all of the BW single-season and career-records for singles (46-15 with a .754 winning percentage), doubles (41-20 with a 672 winning prercentage) and combination victories (87-35 with a .713 winning percentage). Now, many of his current and former Yellow Jacket players own those marks.

After receiving his bachelor's degree in business administration in the spring of 1989, Rector immediately took over the reins of the BW program from his coach and mentor Truman Fields. In his inaugural season, Rector guided the Yellow Jackets to their best-ever record and has since led his squad to new standards of excellence.

Coach Rector is a strong believer in the NCAA Division III philosophy of the student-athlete.  During his coaching career, Rector has mentored five other CoSIDA/ CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America student-athletes in Kevin Peacock '98, Josh Myers '01, Bryan Bartunek '02, Alex Trzeciak '12, Doug Ganim '16 and Dominic Polifrone '19.
Rector is currently employed by KeyBank in Cleveland as a Network Engineer and resides in Berea with his wife Amanda and their four boys; Adam, Kyle, Ben and Zach.
