Men’s Tennis Knocks Off NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene in Spring Opener

MEDINA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule as it defeated NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene University by a final score of 8-1 at the Paramount Tennis Club.

BW (4-0) won two of three doubles matches and all six doubles matches. Mount Vernon Nazarene fell to 0-12 overall and 0-3 against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents. 

Doubles Results

  • Sophomore All-OAC performer Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) & senior All-OAC performer Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) defeated Clayton Amburgy & Austin Faucett at first doubles by a final score of 8-1
  • Sophomore Tyler Perkins (Geneva) & freshman Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) fell to Andrew Hare & Ben Kindberg by a final score of 8-2
  • Senior All-OAC & Academic All-OAC performer Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne) and sophomore Caleb Reed (Wilmington) won by forfeit

Singles Results

  • McGee defeated Hare at first singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-2
  • Freshman Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) defeated Amburgy at second singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-3
  • Kernan defeated Kindberg at third singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-0
  • Sophomore Adam Zeidler (Bay Village/Bay) defeated Faucett at fourth singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1
  • Freshman Jacob Weingart (Tiffin Columbian) defeated Noah Hill by scores of 6-1 and 6-0
  • Freshman Joe Donnelly (Lodi/Cloverleaf) won by forfeit

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 25 when it hosts a pair of non-conference matches against Franciscan University and Thiel (Pa.) College at the Paramount Tennis Club in Westlake.
