Men’s Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Honors, Six Student-Athletes Garner Scholar Athlete Recognition

TEMPE, Ariz. -- For the 11th time in the last 12 seasons, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an All-Academic Team while six student-athletes have been named as Scholar Athletes.

In order to earn the team recognition, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale with all varsity letter winners factored into the team GPA.  To qualify for the individual honor, a player must carry at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year and have been listed on the institutional eligibility form.

BW, who was one of 125 NCAA Division III programs to receive the honor, carried a 3.2 team grade point average.

Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne), junior Academic All-OAC player Mateo Gonzalez (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North), freshman All-OAC player Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and freshmen Jack Hindman (Avon), Caleb Reed (Wilmington) and Adam Zeidler (Bay Village/Bay) were six of the 940 NCAA Division III student-athletes to be selected as Scholar Athletes. 

Tosatto, who garners his third honor, carries a 3.8 grade point average in pre-athletic training and exercise science. This season, he won five matches in singles action and two in doubles play.  For his career, Tosatto has won 11 singles matches and five doubles matches.  Off the court, he is a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

Gonzalez, who earns his first accolade, carries a 3.5 grade point average in international business. For his career, Gonzalez has won two matches in singles action and three in doubles play.  Off the court, he is a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

McGee, who garners his first honor, carries a 3.5 grade point average in engineering. In his first season, he led team with 15 doubles wins and was tied for the team lead with 13 singles victories. For his efforts, McGee was named as an All-Ohio Athletic Conference first-team selection. 

Hindman, who earns his first accolade, carries a 3.5 grade point average in sport management. This season, he was fourth on the team with eight singles victories while posting three wins in doubles play. 

Reed, who garners his first honor, carries a 3.9 grade point average in business information systems.  In his first campaign, he posted five wins in singles action and four in doubles play.  Off the court, Reed is a Dean's List student and student-assistant in the Department of Athletics.

Zeidler, who earns his first accolade, carries a 3.5 grade point average in music performance-voice.  This season, he was third on the team with 10 singles victories and was second on the squad with 10 doubles wins.

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 12-7 and a record of 2-4 in the OAC.  BW advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinals.
