Men's Tennis Edges Out Penn St. (Pa.) Behrend for First Victory of the Year

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team edged out Penn St. (Pa.) Behrend by a score of 5-4 in a non-conference victory, at the North Ridgeville Tennis Club.

BW (1-0 overall) notched two doubles victories, starting with the duo of Junior Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and freshman Grant Smith (Dayton/Centerville), who took No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-1. The team of senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference Jake Elbin (Findlay) and freshman Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.), secured No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-5.

Smith seized a 6-2 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot to start singles play. Freshman Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) grabbed No. 3 singles with consecutive 6-1 scores. Benotti snagged No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 score line.

The Yellow Jackets will hit the courts next on Friday, February, 21 for a non-conference contest with Thiel (Pa.) College. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
