BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Norwich (V.T.) University by a score of 8-1 inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW (9-1) was led by senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time Academic All-OAC Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) as they secured the first doubles, 8-4. Junior Jake Elbin (Findlay) and senior Academic All-OAC Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) took the second doubles with an 8-2 score. The tandem of freshman Eddie Schartman (Westlake) and senior Ben Binion (Shelby) won the third doubles with a score of 8-7.
Polifrone seized his singles victory with scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Harris won second doubles with a line of 6-2, 4-6, and 10-3 in the tie-breaker set. Sophomore Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) grabbed back-to-back 6-0 victories in the fourth singles and Boyer won the fifth singles match with scores of 6-0 and 6-3. Freshman Miles Collins (Aliquippa/Hopewell) secured the sixth singles after falling behind in the first set 3-6, won the second 6-3 and the tie-breaker set 10-5.
BW will hit the courts next on Saturday, March 23 for a match at Grove City (Pa.) College at 12 p.m.
