Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Heidelberg for Season’s First OAC Win

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team notched its first Ohio Athletic Conference victory of the 2018 season in shutout fashion, defeating Heidelberg University 9-0 at the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. 
 
As Heidelberg (0-14, 0-5 OAC) only had five players, BW (10-4, 1-3 OAC) received two points before the match even started. Once doubles play got underway, junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athletes and All-OAC players Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) took care of business with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Alex Papke (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) and sophomore ITA Scholar Athlete Jake Elbin (Findlay) registered a 8-4 victory at No. 2 to sweep the doubles points. 
 
Alongside two doubles matches were playing, freshman Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) started singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5. Polifrone followed suit as he won No. 1 singles by the exact same score of 6-0, 6-0. Harris and Elbin were the next two singles matches to finish as Harris won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 and Elbin notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3. With junior ITA Scholar Athlete Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) last one on the court, the junior cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory and the team shutout. 
 
BW will continue OAC action on Friday, April 20, when the Yellow Jackets travel to Mason to take on Muskingum University at 3 p.m. at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
