Men's Tennis Sweeps Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team continued its winning ways with a dominant 9-0 non-conference victory over Defiance College inside the George M. Smart Athletic Center.

BW (5-0) opened up the evening with three solid double's victories despite a slight change to the usual lineup. Junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) paired with freshman Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) at No. 2 doubles and walked away with a win at love, 8-0. Senior Alex Papke (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) and junior Ben Binion (Shelby) came together at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 victory over their Defiance (0-1) College opponents.

Everyone from No. 3 singles down all played up one spot in the lineup and rose to the occasion. Boyer at No. 3 was up a set at 6-0 before his opponent had to retire. At No. 4, Benotti won by a score of 6-0, 6-1 and Papke won at love, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Making his spring debut in the singles lineup, Binion had a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

BW will play one more non-conference match before heading south for spring break when the Yellow Jackets will take on Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College on Saturday, February 24, at 5 p.m. at the Peters Township Tennis Center in McMurray, Pennsylvania.
