BW Men’s Tennis Wins 7-2 at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team won its fourth straight dual match and defeated Defiance College, 7-2, in its first spring outdoor match at the Dix Tennis Facility.

With its win, BW improves to 9-1 overall while Defiance falls to 3-4 overall.

In doubles action, BW took a 3-0 lead as the number-one duo of junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC student-athlete Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and junior All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange) won by the score of 8-4 to improve to 12-3 this season and 55-17 in their careers and rank in a tie for 22nd all-time in school history.

In addition in doubles, the No.2 tandem of sophomore Nathan Katz (Bexley/ Upper Arlington) and sophomore Jake Liebler (Medina) won, 8-4, to improve to 7-5 overall; and the No.3 team of sophomore Kevin Fredrick (Archbold), this week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, and sophomore Brian Carano (Akron/ Richfield Revere) won 8-5 and improved to 12-3.

In singles play, BW won four of six matches. Harris won at No.1 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 to improve to 12-4 this season and 56-13 in his career and move into 17th place all alone on the all-time Yellow Jacket win list. At No.2 singles, Ganim won by the scores of 6-4, 3-6 and 1-0 (10-7 in the tie-breaker) and improved to 11-3 this season and 53-13 in his career and moved into a tie for 20th all-time.

In addition in singles play, Katz won at No.3 by the scores of 4-6, 6-2 and 1-0 (10-6 in the tie-breaker) to improve to 8-7 this season and Liebler won at No.4 by a 6-2 and 6-0 count to improve to 10-6.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, March 28 when BW travels to Columbus to play its Ohio Athletic Conference opener at Capital University at 1 p.m.  The first home match is an OAC match against Cleveland cross-town and OAC-rival John Carroll University on Tuesday, April 7 at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex at 3:30 p.m.
