Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to Case Western Reserve in Season Finale

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season portion of its schedule as it dropped a non-conference dual Case Western Reserve University but the women's team knocked off NCAA Division II Ursuline College in the Veale Natatorium.  

BW (5-6) fell to Case Western Reserve (7-2) by a final score of 229-66.  

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) as he won the 100-yard butterfly, took second in the 50-yard butterfly and was third in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 52.73 seconds, 24.23 seconds and 49.81 seconds.

In addition, senior All-American and All-Ohio Athletic Conference stroker Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 27.05 seconds. Freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) place second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard backstroke with times of 58.34 seconds and 27.26 seconds.  Senior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) was third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.22 seconds. Junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.66. Freshman freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) was fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle with times of 1:52.83 and 5:25.14. Sophomore freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) placed fourth in the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 24.23 seconds. 

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay squad of Morsch, Thompson, Shaw and Lockhart took second in a time of 1:40.09.

BW is back in action on February 15-17 when it travels to Akron for the 2018 OAC Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Preliminary action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. each day with finals to be contested at 6:00 p.m.
