Men’s Soccer Takes Down Defiance

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer took down Defiance College in a non-conference game by a final score of 3-1 on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW Leaders (5-0-1)

  • Senior forward Nick Surowicz (Medina/Highland) scored one goal which tied him for the team lead with three goals on the season.
  • Freshman defender Mike Kane (Kent/Hudson) scored one goal for his second goal of the season.
  • Freshman forward Max Yakym (Parma/Normandy) added one goal which tied him for the team lead with three goals this season.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Zoltan Nagy (Lakewood/St. Edward) led the squad with three saves.

Defiance Leaders (1-2-3)

  • Joshua Maurer scored the lone goal.
  • Orry Killam led the team with nine saves.

First Half (3-0, BW)

  • Surowicz got the first goal of the game off a free kick just 6:45 into the game.
  • Kane scored off a steal in the offensive zone by senior midfielder Brandon Garibotti (Berea/Berea-Midpark).
  • The final score of the half came from a header by Yakym off a cross from Kieres.
  • BW led the half with 16 shots compared to the four shots by Defiance.
  • Defiance led the half with seven saves compared to the BW three.
  • BW had four corner kick opportunities compared to the one chance by Defiance. 

Second Half (3-1, BW)

  • Maurer scored the only goal of the half off a penalty kick less than five minutes into the half.
  • BW led the half with 10 shots compared to Definace's two shots.
  • Defiance led the half with three saves.
  • BW had five corner kick opportunities

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 17 when they take on Waynesburg (Pa.) College in the first game of a non-conference men's and women's doubleheader at 6:00 p.m. inside John F. Wiley Stadium.
