Two Second Half Goals Haunt Men’s Soccer at Fredonia

FREDONIA, New York—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was defeated by Fredonia State (N.Y.) University, 3-1, on the final day of the Blue Devil/Clarion Hotel Classic hosted by Fredonia State inside University Stadium.

Freshman midfielder Rafael Davalos (Kettering/Alter) scored the only goal for BW (0-5) and Fredonia (1-1-1) was led by senior midfielder Ryan Keller as he scored one goal and added an assist.

In the first half Keller gave the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 8:19 mark. The Yellow Jackets tied the match when Davalos took the cross from sophomore midfielder Kurt Raney (Mentor) for his first career goal.

BW also had a chance to take the lead right before halftime when a shot by freshman forward Danny Ruple (Berea/ Berea-Midpark) hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Fredonia junior defender David Trabold netted the game-winning goal off a pass from Keller in the 59th minute. The Blue Devils scored added another goal when senior forward Jimmy Ritchie sent a cross to senior forward Parker Healy who beat the BW goalkeeper at the 64:25 mark.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) made a career-high seven saves for BW. The Yellow Jackets were outshot, 16-13.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, September 13 when they travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania to square off against Allegheny College in a non-conference game on Frank B. Fuhrer Field at 7:30 p.m.
