Men’s Soccer Game Ends in Draw Despite Strong Showing

BEREA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team tied, Ohio Athletic Conference opponent, Otterbein University, 2-2, Saturday afternoon on Tressel Field inside of The George Finnie Stadium.

BW (4-11-3, 1-5-1 OAC) scored the first half the only goal of the first half in the second minute of the game when senior midfielder Zach Smith (Parma/Normandy) netted his first goal of his season. Freshman forward Jeremy Foust (Strongsville) was credited with his first assist of the season.

In the second half Smith scored his second goal of the game when sophomore defender Luke Westkamp (Pickerington/North) put a great ball behind the defense that set Smith up for the one-on-one goal to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead.

Otterbein (8-5-3, 3-2-2 OAC) scored two unanswered goals in the 70th and 72nd minute to tie the game up, 2-2.

BW and the Cardinals failed to score in the last 28 minutes of regulation, and  in the two 10 minute overtime periods played.

Senior goalkeeper Zach Haynes (Medina) made eight saves for the Yellow Jackets in the 2-2 draw.

The men's soccer team's next game is on Wednesday, October 28 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to take on the, OAC leading, Ohio Northern University at 1 p.m. inside of Kerscher Stadium.
