BW Men Come Up Short Against Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1

BEREA, Ohio- - The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team dropped its home-opener to No.7-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University, 3-1, on Saturday evening on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.

OWU (5-2-1 overall) scored the first points of the match at the 13:19 mark when junior midfielder Brian Schaefer connected his fourth goal of the season. Junior forward Even Lee was credited on the assist.
Despite its 1-0 deficit, BW (1-7 overall) played tough defense in the first half. The Yellow Jackets' allowed just four OWU shots on goal, and freshman goalkeeper Ryan Asbury (Cincinnati/ Turpin) saved three.

In the second half, OWU scored its second goal at the 52:47 mark when Schaefer scored again to give the Battling Bishops a 2-0 advantage. Junior forward Matt Cohen was credited on the assist. OWU would increase its lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Colton Bloecher at the 57:30 mark.
The Yellow Jackets scored their lone goal at the 58:24 mark to cut the deficit to 3-1 when junior midfielder Zach Smith (Parma/ Normandy) scored his second goal of the season from 25 yards out. BW also kept up the pressure and had numerous scoring opportunities in the last 20 minutes but was unable to connect.
OWU led the battle of shots, 16-8, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.  BW's Asbury ended with five saves. OWU also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Yellow Jackets will remain at home and host Waynesburg (Pa.) University in a women's and men's doubleheader this Wednesday, September 24 on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The BW women (1-5-1 overall) plays Waynesburg at 6 p.m. and the Yellow Jacket men's game follows at 8 p.m.
