Jackets defeat Buffalo State (N.Y.), 5-1, at SUNY-Fredonia Classic

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Buffalo State (N.Y.), 5-1, claiming the SUNY-Fredonia Classic Championship Title today (Saturday, September 11, 2010) in Fredonia, New York. With the win, senior midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) earned MVP of the tournament, while sophomore forward Tommy Kramer (Columbus/ Worthington Kilbourne) sophomore forward Justin Peterson (Rochester, Mich./Adams) and senior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) earn all tourney honors. This is the third staright win for the Yellow Jackets.

With its win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-1 overall and next play on Tuesday September 14 at Case Western Reserve University at 7:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring 2:36 into the game, when Leister scored his third goal of the season on a loose ball and shot. BW increased its lead to 2-0 at the 10:02 mark when Kramer scored an unassisted goal. The Jackets extended their lead to 3-0 at the 27:42 mark when Peterson scored his third goal on a cross in the box with the assist going to junior forward Noah Eubanks (West Bloomfield, Mich./ West Bloomfield).

Buffalo State closed the gap to 3-1 at the 30:37 mark when Thomas Winksi scored an unassisted goal. The score remained 3-1 at the intermission.

In the second half, B-W increased its lead to 4-1 when Peterson scored an unassisted goal at the 56:08 mark. The Yellow Jackets scored their final goal at the 70:51 mark when Leister tied Peterson for the most goals on the team with four when he tallied via an assist from Peterson.

In goal, sophomore Josh Gresh (Canton/Hoover) played all 90 minutes, made nine saves and earned the win.

Following its next match versus CWRU, the Yellow Jackets will open their home schedule on Saturday Sept. 18 when they host Grove City College of Pennsylvania in a women's and men's doubleheader at The George Finnie Stadium. The women kick off at 4:30 p.m. and the men play at 7 p.m.
