Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Close Contest to Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team faced Kenyon College in a non-conference matchup on McBride Field. Three goals in the fourth quarter by the Owls earned them the tight win over the Yellow Jackets by an 11-10 final score. 

BW Leaders (0-2)

  • Senior All-OAC attacker/midfielder Kyler Byerly (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) led the team with three goals
  • Junior All-OAC attacker/midfielder Jake Nanosky tallied a goal, two assists, and two ground balls
  • Senior All-OAC goalkeeper Joe Storner (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) totaled 13 saves 

Kenyon Leaders (1-0)

  • Freshman attack David Chintala notched five goals
  • Senior attack Evan Bongers added another three goals

1st Quarter (4-2 Kenyon)

  • BW took 2-0 lead with goals from senior All-OAC attacker/midfielder Olin Ferguson (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) assisted by freshman midfielder Nate Hoover (Worthington/Thomas Washington) and a goal by Byerly assisted by freshman attacker/midfielder Bennet Trout (Pickerington/North)
  • Owls scored four-straight to take a 4-2 advantage headed to the second quarter

2nd Quarter (6-5 Kenyon)

  • The Yellow Jackets struck first on an unassisted goal by Byerly with 11:00 left in the quarter
  • Down three, a goal by freshman attacker/midfielder Reichen Geiselhart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) assisted by Nanosky closed the gap to two with 4:46 left in the half
  • Byerly notched a hat-trick with 1:02 left in the half, putting BW within one 

3rd Quarter (9-8 BW)

  • Junior attacker/midfielder Hunter Boehm (Delaware/Olentangy) found the back of the net to keep BW within one (7-6 Kenyon)
  • Senior All-American midfielder Jonas Aquilla (Westlake/St. Edward) scored unassisted to tie the game at 7-7
  • A B. Trout goal earned BW its first advantage since the first quarter, going up 8-7
  • Freshman attacker/midfielder Jake Koonmen (Fairport, N.Y.) tallied a goal assisted by Nanosky with 3:55 left to play in the quarter (9-7)
  • Yellow Jackets went into the fourth quarter leading 9-8

4th Quarter (11-10 Kenyon)

  • BW went up 10-8 with an unassisted goal by Nanosky
  • Three straight goals by Kenyon in the remaining 12:48 of play earned the Owls the 11-10 victory

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 25 as they hit the road and play in the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader at Grove City (Pa.) College. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. on the Robert E. Thorn Field.
