NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse won its Ohio Athletic Conference opener as it defeated Muskingum University by a final score of 29-4 on the North Athletic Field.
BW (5-2) improved to 5-0 all-time in OAC openers and 4-0 all-time versus Muskingum (3-4). The Yellow Jackets, who have now scored 26 or more points three time this season, have now outscored the Fighting Muskies by a margin of 78-9.
BW held a 7-0 lead after the opening quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored Muskingum by a margin of 6-1 to lead 13-1 at the intermission. BW outscored the Fighting Muskies by a margin of 10-1 to increase its lead to 23-2 after three quarters of play. The Yellow Jackets outscored Muskingum by a 6-2 margin in the final period.
BW was led by senior All-OAC attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) as he scored a career-high six goals and added one assist for a career-high seven points. Junior All-OAC attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) scored four goals and added a school-record tying seven assists for a career-high 11 points. Sophomore attack Justin Presutti (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) tallied a career-high tying four goals. Junior All-OAC attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) chipped in three goals. Junior All-OAC midfielder Matt McDowell (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), freshman attack James Brown (Canfield/Cardinal Mooney), freshman midfielder Quinn Colwell (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) and freshman attack Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes) all contributed two goals.
The Fighting Muskies were led by Zach Kern, Nick Klinefelter, Ryan Stacey and Adrien Hammond all scored a goal.
In net for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-OAC goalie Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) earned the victory as he allowed one goal with two saves in 30:13 minutes of action. Junior netminder Nate Karatas (Penfield, N.Y.) allowed one goal and made three saves in 14:47 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Trent Davis (Ottawa Hills) did not allow a goal with three saves in 11:27. Sophomore goalie Connor Lalime (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) allowed two goals with one save in the final 3:33.
In the first quarter, BW scored all seven goals led by Mike Nanosky and Steinwachs as each tallied two goals. The Yellow Jackets got tallies from Binner, Riemenschneider and McDowell scoring the last goal with 22 seconds.
Muskingum opened the second quarter scoring when Klinefelter scored the unassisted goal at the 9:35 mark. BW scored the final six goals of the stanza to take a 13-1 lead into halftime. The Yellow Jackets were led by Riemenschneider as he tallied three goals, including the final goal of the quarter at 2:57. BW got scores from Steinwachs, who assisted on both Riemenschneider goals, freshman midfielder Gage Schneider (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Presutti.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first four goals of the third quarter as it got a goal from McDowell, back-to-back tallies from Riemenschneider and a score from sophomore midfielder Hunter Lute (North Canton). The Fighting Muskies second their second goal of the game when Kern at the 10:31 mark. BW scored the final six goals to lead 23-2 after three quarters. The Yellow Jackets got two scores from Mike Nanosky and Presutti and one each from freshmen Brown and Miller with the last tally coming from Presutti with 58 seconds left.
The Yellow Jackets outscored Muskingum 7-2 in the fourth quarter. BW got two goals from Colwell and one each from Presutti, Miller, Brown and the last coming from freshman faceoff specialist Keller Fisher (Rocky River) at the 3:43 mark. The Fighting Muskies scored the final two goals of the game with the last coming with 25 seconds left.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday, March 30 when they host an OAC game against Wilmington College on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
