BEREA, Ohio – Men's lacrosse senior defender and Ohio Athletic Conference Defender of the Year Josiah Greve (Milford) finds a home and future at Baldwin Wallace University.
"Lacrosse was not my primary sport," said Greve, the now three-time All-OAC first team selection. In high school his primary sport was basketball and Greve never imagined playing lacrosse at the college level until Head Coach Jason Tarnow contacted him. Greve said, "Tarnow was really the only person to go after me." He continued, "When I came on campus I liked the team and family atmosphere at BW." In addition he said, "I had family friends in the area and BW had the major I was looking for."
After coming to campus, Greve discovered his favorite part of college was the men's lacrosse team. "They [members of the team] are a bunch of characters, but I love them." He joined the team in its second season. Greve proclaimed, "One of the coolest parts about being a start up program is that Dickey [Michael] and I have played side-by-side the past four years."
The digital media and design and computer science double major enjoys life off the field as well. "At BW I found it really easy to make friends and the campus has a very 'homey environment' to it." He continued, "The computer science faculty are awesome as well." Greve landed two internships in the last year as he worked with Rossetta a web marketing agency in downtown Cleveland in the summer of 2016 and is currently interning at I.D. Images, LLC in Brunswick in his final semester.
As his college career comes to a close, "Going to college was a great experience, it taught me self discipline and helped me make my own decisions." He thanks his parents for the great memories and support over the years. "My parents would travel to the end of the earth to watch me play and they always supported me."
After graduation, he looks to build upon his internships and acquire a job, but also plans on continuing his lacrosse career. Greve traveled to Bermuda to practice with the Bremuda national team last summer. He also, "Got the opportunity to meet professional lacrosse player Mark Matthews who was playing in a tournament on the island." He hopes to be to be a player on the team for the 2018 Federation of International World Games for Bermuda that will be held in Israel. For those unfamiliar with the game as Greve described it as the "Olympics for lacrosse."
As Tarnow says, "Its obvious what he has accomplished as a player here for himself and our program, but more importantly he is going to do bigger things once he leaves BW." He continued "I actually am going to miss him more as a person than I will as a player. Josiah brings out the best in you as a person and sometimes I truly think he did more for all us in our program then we could do for him." Tarnow concluded, "I am excited to see what he does in the next chapter of his life."
Greve and the Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, May 2 when they host an Ohio Athletic Conference semifinal game against Capital University on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
