BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University fell to Heidelberg University in the opening Ohio Athletic Conference by a final score of 92-59 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (4-2, 0-1 OAC) was led by junior All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (Canton/Massillon Jackson) as he scored 15 points. Sophomore All-OAC guard Drew Wennes (Huron) added 10 points. On the defensive end, sophomore forward Rob Watson III (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) had three blocks.

Heidelberg (5-1, 1-0 OAC) was led by senior guard Emmanuel Perdue as he scored 19 points. Sophomore guard Zane Leitwein added 18 points. Junior guard Tre Watkins contributed 13 points. Senior forward Seth Hohman added 10 points.

The game started out hot for both teams, but it was the Yellow Jackets who built out a four point lead early. However, the Student Princes were hot and didn't let him. They shot over 50% from the field and over 60% from three. BW tried to keep it close, but Heidelberg proved to be too much as their largest lead was 22 and they took a 21-point lead into halftime at 52-31.

In the second half, some early defense for the Yellow Jackets allowed them to trim the lead down 18 with 13:58 remaining. The Student Princes kept the hot hand and expanded the lead throughout the half as they got up to 35 points near the end of the game. The BW defense was able to make some plays as they racked up eight total blocks in the game. It was the three-point shooting by Heidelberg that was the difference as they walked away with a 92-59 win.

The Yellow Jackets return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 4th when they travel to Wilmington for an OAC game against Wilmington College in the second game of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. in the Fred Raizk Arena.
