Men’s Basketball Comeback Falls Short in First Round of Holiday Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team was defeated 67-65 on a last second shot by Adrian (Mich.) College in the first round of the BW Holiday Invitational in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (6-4) will face Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) in the consolation game on Friday, December 30 at 3 p.m. Adrian (5-5) will play in the championship game at 7 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets had three players score in double figures led by junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) as he scored a team-high 13 points. Freshman forward Alex Nahra (Mayfield) and junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) added 11 points and nine rebounds respectively.

With his 13 points, Kuhn moved to 23rd on the all-time BW scoring list with 1,139 points.  He now needs 20 points to pass Brandan Schuler (2004-08) for 20th place with 1,159.

The Bulldogs were led by senior guard Davonte Harris and junior forward Justin Webster as they each scored a game-high 22 points.

In the first half, Adrian was able to go on an 11-2 run midway through the half after a layup from Webster built the lead up to 22-11 at the 6:45 mark. BW then went on a 12-2 spark from the Yellow Jackets closed the gap to 32-28 when sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) snuck in a lay-up with 1:19 left. Devonte Harris put a cap to the half by draining a deep three-pointer as time expired giving Adrian College a 35-28 lead at the intermission.

In the second half, Adrian College was able to maintain their lead until the 6:20 mark when senior guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) buried a three to give the Yellow Jackets a 53-51 lead. BW held the lead until the final seconds when Harris dropped in a floater in the lane during the final seconds giving the Bulldogs a 67-65 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
