WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed a career-high tying six rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team beat host Otterbein University, 80-69, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rike Center.
In the win, Kuhn canned a BW school-record 15 of 15 foul shots and the Yellow Jackets made 21 of 26 overall. He now has scored 82 points in his last two games, including a single-season school-record 51 on Wednesday night at Mount Union.
In addition to Kuhn, for BW (5-2, 1-1 OAC), sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) recorded his seventh career double-double with 13 points and a game and career-high 17 rebounds. Freshman guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) had 10 points and grabbed a career-best six reboumds. All of Fetherolf's points came in the second half.
The Cardinals (1-6, 0-2 OAC) were led by junior guard Jake Phillis with 27 points.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a pair of 12-point leads with the last at 18-6 at 12:26 when Kuhn made a pair of foul shots. The Cardinals outscored BW 10-3 to close their deficit to 21-16 at 8:35 when Phillis made a three-pointer. BW pushed its lead back to 11 at 29-18 at 5:03 when freshman guard Michael Peters (Cuyahoga Falls/ CVCA) made a triple. BW also led at halftime, 33-27.
In the second half, BW gained a double-digit advantage at 40-30 at 15:44 when Fetherolf grabbed a rebound and scored. Otterbein had a 9-0n run to close to 40-39 at 13:01 when sophomore guard Michael Howard canned a trey. Undaunted, BW came right back to outscore the Cards 18-7 to rebuild its largest lead of 12 points at 58-46 at 6:29 when junior guard Jake Brandy (Hudson) drove the length of the court and scored.
Otterbein got as close as five points at 68-63 with 2:01 remaining when Phillis canned a triple, but BW got a three-point play and Fetherolf made two foul shots to restore a double-figure advantage.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Saturday, December 12 when they travel to New Concord, Ohio to play in the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader at Muskingum University. The women tipoff at 2 p.m. and the men 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game or 4 p.m. The next BW home game is on Saturday, Dec. 19 versus Wilmington College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 3 p.m.
