BW Men’s Hoops Wins at Wilmington, 95-61

WILMINGTON,  Ohio  – Senior forward Matt Dennis (Spring Hill, Fla./ Nature Coast Technical) scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival and host Wilmington College, 95-61, in the Fred Razik Arena. This was BW's last game prior to the Christmas holiday.

In addition to Dennis for BW (5-3, 3-2 OAC), senior guard Justin Roth (Parma) scored 21 points and freshman guard Cameron Kuhn (Vermilion) had a career-high 14. Senior forward Reid Crossen (Jeromesville/ Hillsdale) led the way on the boards with a game-high nine rebounds. Senior forward Jonathan Bibbs led Wilmington (2-7, 1-4 OAC) with 12 points.

The key to the victory was making 35 of 63 shots from the floor for 55.6 percent, including 11 of 18 three-pointers, compared to 18 of 56 for Wilmington for 32.1%. BW also outrebounded the Quakers, 51-25, including a 16-8 advantage on the offensive end of the court.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets gained an early, 8-2 lead at 16:51 when Dennis made a layup, was fouled, made the free throw for the three-point play, and senior All-OAC point guard Jaron Crowe (Mentor) added a foul shot following a technical foul prior to Dennis' charity toss.

The Quakers got as close as 15-14 at 12:19, but BW outscored Wilmington 30-8, including a 10-0 run, to build its largest lead at 45-22 with 1:57 left. The Quakers scored the final four points of the stanza and BW led at halftime, 45-26. BW's first half surge was fueled by shooting 60.7 percent, including making 7 of 10 three-pointers.

In the second half,  BW continued its assault and went on a 23-11 run to build a 68-37 lead when Roth canned a triple at 12:20. The Quakers got as close as 25 points at 68-43 before the Yellow Jackets exploded again and led by as many as 40 points on two separate occassions with the last at 95-55 with 1:41 left when junior forward Zach Warner (Clyde) canned a three-pointer.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, December 30 when it travels to New Wilmington, Pennsylvania to play non-league foe Westminster at 7 p.m. The next Yellow Jacket home game is on Saturday, January 3, 2015 when BW hosts non-league foe Bethany (W.Va.) College at 3 p.m.
