Roth’s 23 Points Helps BW Men’s Hoops Beat ONU, 83-62, in Berea

BEREA, Ohio – Senior guard Justin Roth (Parma) scored a game-high 23 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team won its season-high eighth straight game with a 83-62 victory against Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Roth, who had 13 points in the first half, canned 7 of 9 floor shots, including 4 of 5 three-pointers, and 5 of 6 foul shots. He added six rebounds, two steals and an assist.

Keys to the victory included BW making 27 of 48 floor shots for 58.3 percent, including 8 of 16 three-pointers, and 21 of 25 foul shots for 84%. BW also outrebounded ONU, 39-25, and had 17 assists on 27 made baskets. BW also made 20 of 22 second half foul shots for 90.9%.

In addition to Roth for BW (12-3, 6-2 OAC), freshman guard Cameron Kuhn (Vermilion) had 14 points and extended his made free throw shooting streak to 37 straight, and senior forward Matt Dennis (Spring Hill, Fla.) had 10 points. Also, freshman forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) had eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds.

ONU (7-8, 2-6 OAC) was led by senior guard Isaiah Roux's 11 points.

In the first half, BW raced to a 7-0 lead at 18:44 when Kuhn, this week's OAC Player of the Week, scored on a layup off of a fast break. The Yellow Jacket lead grew to 16 points on three occasions with the last at 39-23 at 2:32 when Roth scored on layup. ONU outscored BW 7-2 the rest of the way and the Yellow Jackets led at halftime, 41-30.

ONU opened the second half by canning three three-pointers and cutting its deficit to 43-39 at 18:06 when Baker nailed a triple. BW stormed back with a 29-16 run to push the lead to 72-55 with 5:18 left when Kuhn canned two foul shots. BW's largest lead was 24 points at 81-57 with 2:08 to go when Roth canned one of two from the charity stripe.

BW returns to action on Wednesday, January 21 when it travels to University Heights, Ohio to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at 7 p.m. in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center. The next home game is on Saturday, Jan. 24 when BW hosts Muskingum University in an OAC game in the Ursprung Gym at 3 p.m.
