TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team won its seventh straight game and freshman guard Cam Kuhn scored a game-high 22 points as the Yellow Jackets won at Heidelberg University, 82-68, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game inside the Seiberling Gymnasium.
Kuhn, who is this week's OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, made 8 of 11 shots from the floor and canned all six of his foul shots. He also had five rebounds, a game-high seven assists and a steal in 27 minutes of action. He has now made 29 straight foul shots.
In addition to Kuhn for BW (11-3, 5-2 OAC), both senior guard Justin Roth (Parma) and senior forward Matt Dennis (Spring Hill, Fla./ Nature Coast Technical) had 13 and junior forward Zach Warner (Clyde) had 11. Also, freshman forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Heidelberg (6-8, 2-5 OAC) was led by junior center Jackson Blue's 13 points.
In the first half, there were six lead changes with Heidelberg building its largest lead at 17-11 at 12:05 when sophomore guard DeAvery Collins made a layup. BW stormed back with a 25-3 run, including a spurt of 18-0, to take a 36-20 lead at 3:02 when Warner came off the bench to make his first of two first half three-pointers.
After the Student Princes reduced the lead to 36-25 at 2:16, BW regained its 16-point lead with a five-point run as Warner canned his second trey and senior All-OAC point guard Jaron Crowe (Mentor) made a pair of foul shots to make it 41-25 at 1:10. A 6-0 Heidelberg run ended the half with BW leading, 41-31.
In the second half, Heidelberg continued its run and cut the lead to 43-38 at 17:26, but an 11-2 BW run restored a 14-point lead at 54-40 at 13:44 when Kuhn made a layup. The Student Princes did not get within double digits the rest of the game. BW gained its largest lead of the game at 82-65 with 27.6 seconds left when sophomore guard Brandon Gleim (Hilliard/ Davidson) made two foul shots.
BW returns to action on this Saturday, January 17 when the Yellow Jackets host an OAC game against Ohio Northern University at 3 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center.
