BW Men’s Hoops Team Loses at ONU

ADA, Ohio – Senior forward Matt Dennis (Spring Hills, Fla./ Nature Coast Technical) scored a game-high-tying 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, but the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team lost at Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University, 84-76, in an OAC game in the ONU Sports Center.  The teams split the season series.

In addition to Dennis for BW (16-8, 10-7 OAC), senior guard Justin Roth (Parma) had 16 points, sophomore guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) had a career-high 15 and freshman forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) had 12 points and nine rebounds.  Despite its loss, BW remains in fourth place in the OAC Standings and will open next week's OAC Tournament with a home game on Tuesday, February 24.

ONU (12-12, 7-10 OAC) was led senior guard Jordan Martin's game-high-tying 19 points.

In the first half, ONU built a 19-8 lead at 11:27 when freshman forward Travis Feitshans came off the bench to score his second straight basket.  The Yellow Jackets outscored the Polar Bears 11-5 to cut the lead to 24-19 at 6:31 when Fetherolf made a layup.

ONU pushed iys lead back to 30-21 at 3:35 when Penninton made a jump shot, was fouled and made his free throw to complete a three-point play. For the remainder of the half, BW outscored ONU 11-0 and took a 32-30 lead with 50 seconds left in the stanza when Dennis made a jumper. The score remained that way at the intermission.

In the second half, BW built three eight-point leads with the last at 45-37 when Dennis made a jumper with 16:30 let. ONU outscored the Jackets 38-17 to retake the lead and gain a game-high 75-62 advantage at 3:46 when Martin made a layup, was fouled and made the free throw.

BW fough back and got as close as 77-74 with 1:51 left when Dennis made a layup, was fouled and made the charity toss. ONU came right back with three straight points to put the game away.

BW returns to action on Wednesday, February 18 when the Yellow Jackets travel to Ada, Ohio to play OAC rival Ohio Northern University at 7:30 p.m. The final regular season game is next Saturday, Feb. 21 at Capital University in Columbus at 3 p.m. The 2015 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Feb. 24 with the OAC Championship Game on Saturday, Feb. 28.
