Today's Contest
Today is the fifth game of the 2022 season, including the fourth road game, the third Ohio Athletic Conference game and the final game of the first half of the season for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels to Marietta to take on the Marietta College Pioneers. Last week, BW rallied from 14-points down for a 35-31 thrilling comeback victory over Ohio Northern University last Saturday in its home opener on Parents' and Family Day.  Marietta defeated Otterbein University by a final score of 27-10 in Westerville.

The Series
BW and Marietta are meeting for 45th time on the gridiron. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series by a margin of 37-7. BW has won 14 of the last 16 meetings.  The last Pioneer victory came in the 2021 OAC spring shortened season as the Pioneers won by a final score of 30-20. The series began in 1974 with the Yellow Jackets defeating the Pioneers, 73-0, in Berea

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert 
Hilvert is in his sixth season at BW and has a record of  31-14 and OAC slate of 25-13. He is 98-39 in his 14th overall season and is 4-1 against Ohio Northern.  

Marietta Head Coach Andy Waddle 
Waddle is in his 10th  season at Marietta and has a record of 35-53 overall and 30-49 mark in the OAC.  He is 2-7 vs. Baldwin Wallace. 

Last Game vs. Marietta -- October 30,  2021
BW scored 24 points on 264 yards rushing, and 69 yards passing and 333 total yards.  Marietta scored 21 points on 190 yards passing, 42 yards rushing and 232 total yards. Senior place kicker Dean Sarris (Canton/GlenOak) scored the only points of the fourth quarter as he hit the game-winning 36-yard field goal at the 14:57 mark.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week four of the season, BW scored 35 points on 262 yards passing and 127 yards rushing for 389 yards of total offense. Ohio Northern scored 31 points on 174 yards rushing and 111 yards passing for 285 yards of total offense. The Yellow Jackets scored two touchdowns of 84 and 75 yards in the final seven minutes for the come from behind victory.

BW Leaders
Offensively, junior quarterback Joey Marousek (North Royalton) has completed 39-of-80 passes for 605 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions.  Junior All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) is second in the OAC with 380 yards on 74 carries. Senior wideout Elijah Arnett (Akron/Woodridge) leads the receiving corps with 160 yards on 13 catches. Defensively, senior linebacker Mason Levasseur (Panama City, Fla. / South Walton)  tops the team and is third in the OAC with 41 tackles. Junior linebacker Vontae Jackson (Cleveland/John Hay) is second on the squad and is seventh in the OAC with 34 stops. Senior linebacker Dillon O'Donoghue (Canonsburg, Pa. /Cannon-McMillian) ais third on the team and tied for eighth in the OAC with 32 tackles.

Scouting the Pioneers
In week three of the season, Marietta scored three  points on 216 yards passing, 176 yards rushing and 392 total yards. Otterbein  scored 10 points on 94 yards rushing, 54 yards passing and 148 total yards. 

Marietta Leaders
Offensively, junior quarterback Connor Vierstra has completed 36-of-52 passes for 498 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.  Senior All-OAC running back Bryce Agnew is fourth in the OAC with 315 yards on 70 carries with three touchdowns. Senior wide out Dre Baldwin has caught 10 passes for 244 yards with three touchdowns. Senior All-American linebacker Drake Neuberger leads the team with 20 tackles and leads the OAC and is second in NCAA Division III with six sacks.

OAC Player of the Week First Timers
Today's contest will feature the OAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week. Marietta running back Bryce Agnew  and BW sophomore defensive back Alden Steele (Lorain/Amherst) each claimed their first weekly honor after their performances last Saturday.  Steele was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week as a safety. 

Rushing Towards Records
Murray, Jr. is rushing his way into the record books at BW.  The All-OAC running back is already the all-time leading rusher with 3,095 yards and carries with 627.  Murray, Jr. needs three touchdowns to set the career touchdown record of 40.

Every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. the Department of Athletics hosts the Athletics Roadshow live from Mike's Bar and Grill in Downtown Berea.  Each week the show which airs on bwyellowjackets.com will recap and preview Yellow Jacket events as well as interview coaches and student-athletes. 

44th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic
BW will host the 44th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on Saturday, October  15 as the Yellow Jackets host Muskingum University at 1:30 p.m.  Partial gate proceeds from the game will go to the Shriners' burn and orthopedic hospitals. 

Hall of Fame Game
BW will induct the 2022 members of its Athletics Alumni Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 15 prior to the Ohio Athletic Conference game between BW and Muskingum University at 1:30 p.m.. The newest inductees will be introduced to the Finnie Stadium crowd between the first and second quarters.
