WILMINGTON, Ohio – Junior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton/ Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas) threw three touchdown passes to senior wide receiver Kyle Dunne (Rocky River) and Dunne also ran back a punt 40 yards for his fourth TD of the game as the Baldwin Wallace University football team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 56-17, today at Williams Stadium. BW won its third straight game this season and its sixth straight win versus the Quakers to increase its all-time series lead to 14-2.

 

Dunne accounted for 176 all-purpose yards as he caught TD passes of 17, 9 and 17 yards from Moeglin and had six receptions for 91 yards and three TD's and ran back five punts for 85 yards and a TD. Moeglin completed 9 of 17 passes for 127 yards with three TD's., and he ran the ball for 42 yards in six attempts.

 

BW (4-2, 3-2 OAC) led 21-7 after one quarter and at halftime and 42-14 after three quarters.  The Yellow Jackets had a 413-346 advantage in total offense including a 171-89 advantage through the air. Wilmington (0-6, 0-5 OAC) lost for the 19th straight time dating back to the 2012 season.

 

In addition to Dunne and Moeglin for BW, junior Isaac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla./ Lehigh) had a team-high 88 yards on the ground in 88 attempts and freshman RB Jarrod Smith (Canton/ McKinley) had 81 yards in 13 attempts with his first two collegiate TD's. Freshman WR Joe Kijaukas (West Geauga) had four catches for 77 yards and a TD. The defense was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC outside linebacker Danny O'Brien (Warren/ Howland)  who had a team-high seven tackles.

 

The Quaker offense was led by sophomore RB Chase Manica who had a game-high 158 rushing yards in 13 attempts, including an 87-yard TD jaunt. Freshman QB Brandon Mitchell completed 9 of 20 passes for 89 yards with a TD and an interception.  Freshman WR Tyrik Burns had a team-high five catches for 59 yards and a TD. The defense was led by junior OLB Nick Williams with a game-high 10 tackles

 

In the first quarter, Wilmington took 14 seconds to grab a 7-0 lead at the 11:59 mark when Manica sped 87 yards on the first play from scrimmage. Sophomore placekicker Grant Brown added the point-after-touchdown kick (PAT). BW came right back to tie it at 7-7 when Moeglin threw 17 yards to Dunne at the 9:59 mark to cap a 4-play and 62-yard drive in 1:51.

Sophomore PK Joe Simonis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) added his 20th consecutive PAT kick.

The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 14-7 at 4:01 when Moeglin threw 9 yards to Dunne to cap an 8-play and 61-yard drive in 4:24. Simonis added his 21st straight PAT boot. BW built its lead to 21-7 at 1:03 when Smith scored his first collegiate TD on a 6-yard run to cap a 6-play and 46-yard drive in 2:05. Simonis nailed his 22nd straight PAT kick.

 

In the third quarter, BW increased its advantage to 28-7 at 12:22 when Moeglin threw his third TD pass of the game to Dunne, this one for 17 yards to cap a 5-play and 43-yard drive in 2:30. Simonis added his 23rd PAT kick. The lead grew to 35-7 at 10:06 when senior defensive end Tom Iverson (Wadsworth) grabbed a fumble ot of the air following a QB sack by junior.

Academic All-OAC tackle Lawrence Wolfe (Creston/ Norwayne) and rambled 25 yards to the end zone. Simonis added his 24th PAT in a row. BW increased its lead to 42-7 at 7:05 when Dunne scored his fourth TD of the day on a 40-yard punt return and Simonis added his 25th straight PAT.  Wilmington ended BW's streak of six straight TD's when it cut the deficit to 42-14 at 2:51 when Mitchell threw a 2-yard TD pass to Burns to cap an 11-play and 76-yard drive in 4:08. Brown added his second PAT kick.

 

In the fourth quarter, BW pushed the lead to 49-14 at 14:14 when Smith scored his second career TD on a 3-yard run to cap a 9-play and 55-yard drive in 3:30. Simonis added his 26th straight PAT.  The Yellow Jackets took a 56-14 lead with 11:35 left when sophomore QB Robbie Plagens (Rocky River) threw his first collegiate TD pass, a 41-arder to freshman Joe Kijaukas (West Geauga) to cap a 3-play and 43-yard drive in 43 seconds. Simonis added his 27th straight PAT. The Quakers made it a 56-17 game at 6:42 when Brown connected on a 22-yard field goal to cap an 11-play and 60-yard drive in 4:53.

 

BW returns to action next Saturday, October 25 when it hosts OAC rival Otterbein University on Professor Appreciation Day on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
