Steve Opgenorth Joins BW Football Coaching Staff

BEREA, Ohio – Steve Opgenorth begins his first season on the Baldwin Wallace University coaching staff in 2015-2016 as its quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator.

"Steve is a great addition to the BW family," saidYellow Jacket Head Coach John Snell. "He brings great experience and knowledge to the staff and I am excited to have him here

"Steve's understanding of Division III recruiting and his knowledge of offensive football will be a big plus to our program," continued Snell.  "He has already made his presence felt by jumping head first into the recruiting process and getting prospects on campus in a very short period of time."

The 2005 Winona State (Minn.) University graduate who began master's degree work at Carroll (Wisc.) College in 2007 comes to BW after serving as the head coach at St. Norbert (Wisc.) College in the fall of 2014 where he led his team to a 6-4 record.  

Prior to St. Norbert, Opgenorth spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Colby (Maine) College. From May of 2010 through March of 2012, he returned to his alma mater at Winona State as its special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach.

Opgenorth began his college coaching career at Albright (Pa.) College in 2007 as its special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator and defensive backs coach. He helped Albright grow from a 2-8 mark in 2006 to an 11-2 record, a No.9-ranking and an NCAA Division III National quarter-final appearance in 2009.

While at Carroll (Wisc.), Opgenorth was a graduate assistant coach during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons and coached the wide receivers and tight ends and served as the assistant recruiting coordinator.

In addition to coaching, Opgenorth was selected as one of 30 participants in the NFL/NCAA coaches' academy in 2012, and has been a leadership development speaker.  He is also an active member in the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) and FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).

Opgenorth, a native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, graduated from Winona State cum laude in May 2005 with degree in business education.  His master's degree is in adult education leadership in 2007.

At Winona State, Opgenorth was a four-year scholarship student-athlete and placekicker who earned All-American honors. He ended his career with 323 points and holds nine WSU school records.  In 2005, Opgenorth was named a member of the Winona State All-Century Team. He also was a member of three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championships, four straight post-season appearances, including being the 2000 Mineral Water Bowl champions and 2003 NCAA Division II Playoff quarterfinalists.
