Two Yellow Jacket Football Players Named OAC Players of the Week

BEREA, Ohio --  Two Baldwin Wallace University football student-athletes, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC linebacker Dan O'Brien (Warren Howland) and sophomore placekicker Joe Simonis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland), were selected as OAC Players of the Week.

O'Brien was named the OAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high 12 tackles and a safety in the Yellow Jackets season opening 32-20 victory against Bluffton University on Saturday. He also had one pass breakup.

O'Brien, who carries a 3.803 grade average and is a CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America candidate, received the co-Dick Miller Community & Family Day Outstanding Player of the Game award for his efforts.  

Simonis was named the OAC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording 12 points, including a perfect three of three in field goals and extra points. In his first career start, Simonis booted a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 21-yarder and a 23-yarder in the fourth.

BW remains at home this Saturday, September 20 when it hosts Ohio Northern University in the first OAC contest of the season in the 37th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on the Tressel Field at the George Finnie Stadium.   Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
