No. 3 Baseball Tames Polar Bears in Dominant Game One Victory of OAC Tournament

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 3 nationally ranked and top-seeded Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated fourth-seeded Ohio Northern University in the opening game of the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament by a final score of 11-3 on Fisher Field. 

BW (34-7) was led by sophomore outfielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) as he went 2-4 with two runs scored. The Yellow Jackets were also led by junior infielder Noah English (Perrysburg), senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville / St. Edward), and sophomore infielder Matt Terzola (Uniontown / Archbishop Hoban) as they each tallied two runs throughout the course of the game.

Bottom 1st - Senior first baseman Max Anastasio (Chesterbrook, Pa. / Conestoga) singled to second base, RBI; junior third baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township / Olmsted Falls) advanced to third; sophomore infielder/utility player Jace Druschel (Tampa, Fla. / George Steinbrenner) scored.

Bottom 1st - Ritlinger-Nirider singled to center field, RBI; Anastasio advanced to second; Kilbane scored.

Bottom 1st - Terzola doubled to left field, RBI; Ritlinger-Nirider advanced to third; Anastasio scored.

Bottom 2nd - Senior utility player Joey Marousek (North Royalton) flied out to center field, SAC, RBI; Mohnickey scored.

Bottom 4th - Mohnickey flied out to left field, SAC, RBI; English scored.

Bottom 6th - Mohnickey flied out to center field, SAC, RBI; Terzola advanced to third; Ritlinger-Nirider scored.

Bottom 6th - Junior first baseman Nathan Zinn (Columbus / Worthington Kilbourne) grounded out to shortstop, RBI; English advanced to second; Terzola scored, unearned.

Bottom 8th - Sophomore outfielder Reid Fleming (Pickerington / North) grounded out to pitcher, RBI; Mohnickey advanced to second; English advanced to third; Terzola scored.

Bottom 8th - Mohnickey advanced to third; English scored on a wild pitch.

Bottom 8th - Marousek singled to right field, RBI; Mohnickey scored.

At the Plate

  • Marousek and Mohnickey led the way with a hit and two RBIs each.
  • Ritlinger-Nirider went 2-4 while notching an RBI.

On the Mound

  • Sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Walker (Fairlawn / Copley) pitched for six full innings with five strike outs where he held the Polar Bears to three runs on five hits.
  • Sophomore left-handed pitcher Carson Collins (South Bend, Ind. / Saint Joseph's) pitched for three innings with three stike outs, holding ONU to zero runs and two hits.

The top-seeded Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, May 10 for Day Two of the OAC Tournament. BW will play the winner of Game Two at 9:30 a.m. on the Fisher Field.
