Baseball’s Ludwick Named to the 2022 D3baseball.com Preseason All-America Team

Full Preseason All-America Team Release

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) has been selected for the 2022 D3baseball.com Preseason Baseball All-America Team.

Ludwick, who earned D3baseball.com All-Mideast Region first team honors, American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Sports All-Mideast Region second team honors and was named to the OAC All-Tournament team last season, lands among the nation-wide projected Division III top-45 athletes.

The two-time First Team All-OAC middle infielder led the Yellow Jackets with a .434 average last season, which was second in the OAC. Ludwick also led the team and was second in the OAC in hits, totaling 76. He tied for first on the team in homeruns (8) which was good for second in the OAC. Ludwick led the team in runs batted in with 43 and finishing fourth in that category in the conference. 

Ludwick also appeared on the mound last year, pitching 10.2 innings for BW. He finished the year with a 1-1 record and tallied five strikeouts.

In his career, he has a hitting average of .360, scored 144 runs, batted in 125 runs, and tallied 12 homeruns. Ludwick surpassed 200 total hits last season and has totaled 210. He also has notched 42 careers doubles, 16 career triples, and 36 career stolen bases.

Ludwick is accompanied on the All-America Team with three other OAC student-athletes, all reigning from Marietta College. Outfielder Turner Hill was selected to the first team, pitcher Sam Matthews was selected to the second team, and first baseman Drew Holderbach joins Ludwick on the third team.

BW begins the season with a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, February 19 against La Roche (Pa.) University. The matchup is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Fisher Field.
