INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Baldwin Wallace University junior D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region 7 first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) earns BW Baseball's first Elite 90 Academic Recognition Award.

The ELITE 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.

This year, at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships, Vonderhaar earned this award by being recognized as the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average. Vonderhaar holds a GPA of 3.97 while in the Carmel Boyer School of Business.

Vonderhaar is also a successful athlete, being recently recognized as a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference, an All-Region honoree, and was named Brockport (N.Y) All-Regional Tournament MVP. Off the field, he is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Dayton C. Miller and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Saturday, June 3 as they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for their second-ever NCAA Baseball Championships. BW will take on Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CST on Veterans Memorial Stadium.
