GREENWOOD, Ind. – Junior All-America first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) of the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Second team.
Vonderhaar, who garners his first Academic All-America accolade and carries a 3.97 grade point average in accounting, becomes the 126th BW student-athlete to be named as an Academic All-American and the 17th baseball player to earn the honor. The 126 Yellow Jackets that have been honored is more than any other college or university in the OAC and ranks 12th nationally in Division III. The baseball program has also had two Academic All-American of the Year student-athletes.
On the field, Vonderhaar has been recognized as an American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings (ABCA) and D3baseball.com All-American as well as an ABCA and D3baseball.com first-team All-Region first baseman. Vonderhaar had a standout season as he helped his team to a Regional and Super Regional Championship, earning them a spot in the University's second-ever trip to the NCAA World Series. The Regional MVP was recently recognized at the Championships as being the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the final site, earning him the Elite 90 award (only earned by one other student-athlete in BW history).
Vonderhaar is the BW Single Season Record holder in homeruns, hitting 19 this season, breaking a 20-year-old record. He also holds the Single Season RBIs Record, batting in 70 runs. He hit .340 on the year with a .711 slugging average, earning him First-Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors for the second time in his career, while also landing on the OAC All-Tournament team. He notched 34 extra base hits, totaling 67 hits and 53 runs.
Off the field, Vonderhaar is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Dayton C. Miller and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries. BW concluded the season with an overall record of 37-13, being the winningest team in BW baseball history.
