Ludwick and Vonderhaar Named ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans, Two Student-Athletes Tabbed as All-Region

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four student-athletes of the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team were selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America and All-Region 7 teams. 

Senior All-OAC shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) were named Third-Team All-American and earned first-team All-Region 7 honors. Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC centerfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate) was selected to the second-team All-Region 7 while senior All-OAC utility player Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) earned third-team All-Region 7 honors.

Ludwick, who garners his second ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honor and first All-America honor, led the team offensively in hits and runs. He is a three-time first-team All-OAC recipient, hitting .364 on the year with a .627 slugging, hitting 32 extra base hits. Ludwick has totaled 76 hits, 63 runs, 45 RBIs, 44 singles, 19 doubles, three triples, and 10 homeruns. In the first game of the NCAA Super Regional, Ludwick hit a two-run homerun in the first inning to lead BW to a game-one win over Endicott (Mass.) College. Also in that game, he tied the BW Single Season Doubles Record, hitting 19 so far this year.

In his decorated career at BW, Ludwick has garnered many records including Career games played/started (187), at-bats (793), hits (286), runs (89), RBIs (170), singles (184), doubles (60), and triples (19). He also tied the BW Single Triples Season record in 2019 with six. In his career, Ludwick has also totaled 50 stolen bases and 22 homeruns. Off the field, he is a Dean's List student.

Vonderhaar receives his first All-Region and All-America award of his career after hitting .344 with a slugging average of .730. Vonderhaar has notched 34 extra base hits and garnered the BW Single Season Homerun Record, hitting 19 bombs so far this year (which leads the OAC and is fifth in NCAA DIII). He also leads the team and the OAC in RBIs, setting the Single Season RBI Record with 68. In the NCAA Brockport (N.Y) Regional, Vonderhaar hit a homerun in each game to lead his team to a Regional Championship and was named All-Regional Tournament MVP. He has had three two-homerun games this season and earned a career-high six RBIs against Heidelberg University.

In his career, Vonderhaar has posted 114 hits, 102 RBIs, 89 runs, 65 singles, 24 homeruns, 23 doubles, and two triples. Recently earning his second All-OAC honor, Vonderhaar also was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 team for the first time in his career. He was also awarded the 2022 NCAA DIII Baseball Championships Elite 90 Award, being honored as the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing in the World Series. Off the field, Vonderhaar is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Dayton C. Miller and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries.

Capolupo earns his first All-Region award by leading the very offensive BW team in batting average, hitting .381 this year. A first-team All-OAC honoree, Capolupo has hit 24 extra base hits and has a slugging average of .577. He is second the team in hits (74) and runs (63). Capolupo has posted 16 doubles, two triples, and six homeruns so far this season. In the NCAA Super Regional final, Capolupo hit a bases-clearing double to put the Yellow Jackets up 7-3 as BW went on to claim its first Super Regional Title by a 7-4 final score. Capolupo also leads the team in stolen bases with 16. 

In Capolupo's career, he has totaled 81 hits, 70 runs, 56 singles, 40 RBIs, 17 doubles, two triples, and six homeruns. Off the field, he is an Academic All-OAC recipient, a Dean's List student, and a Jacket Scholar.

Wilson, who receives his first All-Region honor, has a batting average of .338 and an earned run average (ERA) of 2.96. He has tallied 66 hits, 54 runs, 46 RBIs, 14 doubles, and five homeruns. On the mound, Wilson has pitched 48.2 innings (second on the team) and leads the team in wins with nine, which is also good for second in the OAC and ties the BW Single Season Wins Record. He also leads the team in saves with four. Wilson has earned nine shutouts during his time on the mound this year, totaling 53 strikeouts and has only walked ten batters.

In his career, Wilson has notched 129 hits, 90 runs, 89 RBIs, 36 doubles, two triples, and eight homeruns. From the mound, he has pitched 112 innings and earned 132 strikeouts. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Friday, June 3 as they compete in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for their second-ever NCAA Baseball Championships. BW will take on Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CST in Veterans Memorial Stadium.
