Smith Earns First Career OAC Pitcher of the Week Honor

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – For the first time in his career, Baldwin Wallace University sophomore right-handed pitcher Nick Smith (Mentor) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Starting the first game of BW's OAC doubleheader against John Carroll University, Smith threw a career-high 8.2 innings with a career-best 10 strikeouts. The sophomore did not walk a batter, gave up nine hits and allowed three runs (two earned) in the win.

On the season, Smith has made eight appearances with seven starts, holds a 4-0 record with one save, owns a career-low 1.42 earned run average (ERA) and has punched out 37 batters in 44.1 innings pitched.

For his career, Smith has a perfect 7-0 record with a 2.70 ERA in 73.1 total innings. He has recorded 52 strikeouts, one save and one complete seven-inning game.

The top-seeded and co-regular season champion Yellow Jackets host the 2019 OAC Tournament May 9-11 and begin action on Thursday against fourth-seeded Otterbein University at 12 p.m. on Fisher Field. Complete OAC Tournament information can be found HERE.
