No. 5 Baseball Knocked Out of OAC Baseball Tournament by Cross-town Rival John Carroll

TIFFIN, Ohio – The fifth-nationally ranked and third-seeded Baldwin Wallace University baseball team was knocked out the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament by fourth-seeded and cross-town rival John Carroll University, 3-2, in an elimination game on Peacefully Valley Field.

BW (31-10), who lost in last year's OAC Championship game to John Carroll, must now wait and see if it will earn at-large bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.  John Carroll (25-15) advances to play second-seeded Marietta College (25-15) in an elimination game later this afternoon.  The winner of that game will advance to OAC Championship game vs. No. 9 and top-seeded Heidelberg University (31-10) on Saturday, May 9 at 12 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the fifth and one in the eighth.  The Blue Streaks scored all three of its runs on a three-run homerun in the first inning.

BW scored two runs on 11 hits, but no extra base knocks. Junior All-OAC designated hitter Hunter Handel (Akron/Green) led the attack with three hits as he went 3-for-4 with one run-batted in.   Junior All-OAC third baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/Green) and sophomore second baseman Cole Nieto (Brunswick/St. Ignatius) each added two hits.  Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with a walk and Nieto went 2-for-5 with a RBI.

On the mound, four Yellow Jacket pitchers allowed three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
