No. 12 Baseball Knocks off Hiram in Non-Conference Game

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 12-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team won a 9-2 non-conference single game against Hiram College on Heritage Field.

BW (27-8) has won six straight games, 10 of the last 11 and improved to 8-1 against North Coast Athletic Conference opponents.  Hiram (8-25), who snapped a 10-game losing skid on Saturday, has lost 11 of its last 12 games and ends with a 1-3 record against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents.

The Yellow Jackets scored three in the second, two in the fifth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth. The Terries plated a run in the third and one in the eighth.

BW scored nine runs on 10 hits and was led by sophomore left fielder Logan Heffernan (Lebanon) with two hits as he went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.  Heffernan pinch hit in the bottom of the fifth and then stayed in the game to play left field.  Eight other Yellow Jackets tallied a hit.  Sophomore second baseman Cole Nieto (Brunswick/St. Ignatius) had a double and had two RBIs as one of the eight base knocks.

On the mound, five BW pitchers allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.  Freshman Nick Patrone (Bellaire) got the start and the win as he improved to 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when they hosts No. 11 The College of Wooster in a single non-conference game on Wednesday, April 29 at 4 p.m.   BW closes out its home portion of its schedule on Thursday, April 30 with a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1:30 p.m.
