Two Big Fourth Innings Lead No.15 BW Baseball to Sweep of Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The 15th-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team used two four-run fourth innings as it swept pair of non-conference seven-inning games against Denison University on Big Red Field.  
 
BW (24-8) won a 5-1 decision in the opener and completed the sweep against Denison (13-16) with a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
The Yellow Jacket have won three straight games, seven of the last eight and improved to 7-1 against North Coast Athletic Conference opponents.  The Big Red have lost three straight and seven of the last eight games.
 
In game one, BW scored five runs on 10 hits, including three extra base knocks, and was led by four Yellow Jackets with two hits apiece.  Junior right fielder Jerry Scholle (Hinckley/Medina Highland) was 2-for-2 with a double, run batted in (RBI) and run scored.  Junior third baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/Green), junior designated hitter Hunter Handel (Akron/Green) and sophomore second baseman Cole Nieto (Brunswick/St. Ignatius) all were 2-for-4.   Nieto had a triple and 2RBIs, Zimmerman had a double and run scored and Handel had a RBI.
 
On the mound, sophomore Logan Heffernan (Lebanon) improved to 4-1 overall as he pitched seven innings and allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
 
In the nightcap, BW scored six runs on seven hits with 10 walks.  The offense was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North) and sophomore catcher Alex Marcum (Granville) with two hits apiece as both went 2-for-4.  Marcum had a double and Chontos added a walk and run scored.  Senior right fielder Alex Green (Pickerington/North), Scholle and Nieto all had one hit.  Green had a walk and two RBIs, Scholle had a RBI and run scored and Nieto had a double, run scored and RBI. 
 
On the mound, four Yellow Jacket pitchers combined for the win and allowed two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts and five walks.

BW is back in action this Saturday, April 25 when it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on at Heritage Field at 1 p.m.
