Simpson Named Men’s and Women’s Head Track and Field Coach

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Director of Athletics Steve Thompson and Coordinator of Cross Country and Track and Field Joe Eby are pleased to announce that Daniel Simpson has been named head men's and women's track and field coach.

Simpson comes to BW from NAIA Menlo (Calif.) College where he served as the head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach for one season.  During his time at Menlo, he mentored the school's first female cross country All-American in 30 years and became the first coach to send student-athletes to all three NAIA National Championships in one season.

"We couldn't be more excited to add Dan to the mix," said Eby.  "He has a great background of coaching and recruiting at a high level and knows what it takes to build a successful program.  He will inject energy and creativity into the program from day one."

In addition, Simpson served as the head cross country coach and track and field coach at NCAA Division III Lake Forest (Ill.) College as well head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach at NCAA Division III North Park (Ill.) University. He also served as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at NCAA Division II Augusta (Ill.) University, Defiance College, and the University of Mount Union.

"After a decade away, I'm excited to return to the Buckeye State to collaborate with friend and colleague in Joe Eby at Baldwin Wallace," stated Simpson.  "BW has such a rich tradition in track and field, and I'm thrilled to be a pivotal part of this historic program's future.  I'd like to personally thank Steve Thompson, Joe, and the members of the search committee responsible for making this happen.  It's time to get to work!"

Simpson earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and English literature from Heidelberg University.  While at Heidelberg, he finished among the top three at the Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships as junior and senior. Simpson also finished his track & field career as Heidelberg's school record-holder in the outdoor 5000-meter run.
