Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes Compete at NCAA Last Chance Meets

BEREA, Ohio – Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field team competed at two NCAA "Last Chance" meets. Each student-athletes competed in order to obtain a qualifying mark to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet next week.  

At the Tufts (Mass.) Final Qualifier:

  • Junior All-OAC ShaDaryll Clark II (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) placed third in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.35 seconds. 
  • Sophomore All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) placed 10th in the 800m dash in a time of 2:27.28.
  • The women's All-OAC distance medley squad of sophomore Cassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester), Freshmen Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) , Murphy and senior All-American runner Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) finsihed seventh in a time of 12:23.51. 

At the Polar Bear Last Chance Invite, hosted by Ohio Northern University inside the ONU Sports Center:

  • Junior All-OAC Abby Rodriguez (Grandview, Wash. / Prosser) placed fourth in the women's shot put with a distance of 12.47m
  • Senior Gloria Jurcisek (Cleveland / Normandy) placed sixth in the women's high jump with a height of 1.48m and seventh in long jump with a distance of 4.79m.
  • Junior Elizabeth Schultz (North Olmsted) placed fifth in the women's weight throw with a distance of 15.63m
  • Freshmen Jackson Tupa (Medina) placed 17th in the men's weight throw with a distance of 9.78m

The Yellow Jackets will now wait and see which athletes qualify to the 2022 NCAA Indoor National Championships, hosted Friday and Saturday, March 11-12 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
