Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Ohio Northern on Seniors' Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving team closed the portion of its home schedule as it falls to Ohio Northern University by a final score of 154-80 on the mens side and 151-83 on the women's side in an OAC dual meet in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

On the Men's side, the Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Freshman Erik Tagg (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) placed fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:09.72.
  • Junior Austin Olsavsky (Medina) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:48.06.
  • Freshmen Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas / El Paso)won in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:01.98.
  • Freshmen Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas / El Paso)won in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:01.98.
  • Freshman Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) finished second the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:01.44.
  • Freshman Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:02.66 and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:01.81.
  • Sophomore Mason Kooyman (Concord Township / Chardon) placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 49.60 seconds.
  • Junior Alec McNeil (Avon Lake) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:26.61

On the Women's side, the Yellow Jackets individual highlights included: 

  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:25.42
  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:32.27.
  • Junior All-OAC performer Julia Newbould (Strongsville) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.09 seconds.
  • Sophomore Tia Reed (Bluffton, S.C.) won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:33.46 and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.00.
  • Freshman Mallory Dondorfer (Mentor) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:03.93 and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:18.25.
  • Junior Aubrey Syron (Dayton/Archbishop Alter) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:29.03.
  • Sophomore Lauren Slife (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.50 seconds.

BW relays were highlighted by:

  • The men's 200-yard medley relay of Tafoya, McQueary, Kingsley, and Kooyman placed second in a time of 1:40.50.
  • The women's 200-yard medley relay of Ratino, Reed, Newbould and Dondorfer placed second in a time of 1:56.51.
  • The men's 200-yard freestyle of freshmen Luke Minick (Stow / Archbishop Hoban), Olsavsky, freshmen Gavin Skwirut (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) and freshmen Will Bolin (Mansfield / Ontario) placed second in a time of 1:31.96. 
  • The women's 200-yard freestyle of Slife, McClintock, senior Emily Newcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) , and sophomore Kate Wells (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) placed second in a time of 1:49.27.


The Yellow Jackets return to the pool tomorrow, Janurary 29th when it travels to Cleveland in a match up against Case Western Reserve University inside Veale Natatorium at 1 p.m.
